Following the introduction of Leagues in Rugby Union in 1995, the RFU had to find a new format for the County Championship which saw a tiered format introduced and Durham have played at various levels since then.
The main reward today for reaching the Final in any of the tiered Competitions is to play at the Rugby Union's headquaters at Twickenham and in 2014 Durham played old rivals Kent who were able to avenge their 2009 defeat at the hands of Durham by 31 pts to 23. The team is photographed outside the Spirit of Rugby restaurant, one of the many facilties available at the re-vamped Twickenham.
Thought the town had no playing representatives on the day, the Management team included John Dove and Chris McLoughlin (West Hartlepool TDSOB), Jim Ainslie (Hartlepool Athletic) and Mick Ainslie (Hartlepool Rovers).
