1905 - Scotland v New Zealand

What we know about this image :

Scotland v New Zealand 1905. The Hartlepools have produced a number of International players over the years; several have Captained the England XV,  Fred Alderson and Bernard Oughtred from Rovers whilst Jack Taylor and Carl Aarvold from West also held the honour of leading our Country.

Another with a local connection to lead his country of Scotland was Doctor Leonard West, who played for West and Durham County in 1905 whilst being a member of the Scotland XV during that period. He went on to Captain the Scotland XV in 1906. Leeds born and Edinburgh University qualified, he is possibly moved to the town to work at the then newly opened Cameron Hospital.

Dr West settled in Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire and his service is remembered in the Doctor West Memorial Home which still operates in that town.
