To mark the Centenary of the establishment of the Rugby Football Union which occurred in 1970/71, the District Union held a Dinner at the Borough Hall to celebrate the occasion. The top table included from left to right:-
Keith Baggs & Frank Gibbon (West), Keith Lister, John Dee and Bob Hewitt (Rovers), Charles Trelogan (Durham County President), Tarn Bainbridge (County R F U Representative) and Lyne Mock (Schools Union.
All Clubs in the town are members of the R F U and are all part of the Durham County Rugby Football Union, which stills covers the traditional land area of County Durham from the River Tees in the South to the River Tyne in the North, with Stanley Burn at Ryton and Rey Cross out on Stainmore being the farthest West points.
