The victorious Horden II that defeated Seaton Carew by 17 pts to 15 pts in the Pyman Final played on Mayfield Park, Wednesday 1st May 2002.
Horden II also received the Pyman Flag, the first time since 1925 that a Flag had been presented. The original flag was a house flag of the Pyman Shipping Group in West Hartlepool and has been reinstated by the District Union as part of the Millennium celebrations.
Horden Rugby Club has been a member of the Hartlepool District since its inception in 1925, the village itself being already connected with the town as pupils travelled in from the Collieries by train to attend Henry Smith School. Joining the Pyman League from their outset, they soon made its mark winning the Junior Cup in 1929 and taking the Gibb Shield, Lormor Cup and Pyman Cup back to Horden in 1937, the only time all 3 have been out of town. They built on their restart after the War winning the Junior Cup 3 times in the early 1960s to achieve Durham Senior Status and the years since 1975 have been their most successful culminating in 2013/14 by winning Durham & Northumberland 1, the 2nd XV taking the CaNDY League and Pyman Cup, the 3rd XV not to be outdone annexed the Tees Valley Social League and Pyman Shield but lost out in the 3rd Team Cup!
Since 2016 the club is now housed in its new Headquarters at Eden Park, Peterlee, leaving Welfare Park after 90 years residency to mark the move with a new name “Horden & Peterlee RFC”.
