One honour that has escaped Old Boys is an appearance and indeed, a win in the Final of the Senior Cup, a competition they appeared in regularly until the advent of the League system in the 1980s.
They almost made it to the Final in 1947/1948 season when they accounted for Houghton in the 1st Round by 8 – 0, Consett 9 – 5 in the next round before going down in the semi Final on Ashbrooke to Sunderland by 6 pts to 17. The Wearsiders losing in the Final that year to Rovers.
An action shot from that encounter, played before a huge crowd judging by the packed Stand, the stand is still a feature of the Ashbrooke ground, and shows Harry "Tucker" Flounders going for the ball with Absie Winn in the background.
