1954 - West Hartlepool v Darlington GSOB

What we know about this image :

A clue to the era of these two pictures lies in this one with the background showing advertising for one of the new wide screen processes produced in the 1950s. Taken at the Greyhound Stadium, to left in the background can be seen the Forum Cinema later the ABC, in what is now Raby Road then Hart Lane. The feature for the week cannot be made out but the word Cinemascope is very evident, this system plus Vista-Vista Vision and Todd-AO were “must see” systems of the time with Cinemascope bursting on to the screens in 1953.

The match dates from around 1954 and judging by the strip of the team defending the Museum Road end to the right, it appears to be Darlington GSOB, who had been formed in 1945 by former players of QEGS, Darlington and are now more famously known as Darlington Mowden Park and featured West’s fixture card regularly.
