1955 - Billingham v Durham City (2)

What we know about this image :

This pic taken by the Mail sister Newspaper, the Billingham Post, dates from the mid 50s showing Durham City on the left of the picture; No 5 is possibly David Evans, with Paul Brennan at scrum half, the team right is possibly Billingham, at the tail of the line largely obscured is the Ref in a plain jersey! The ground is the former Billingham Belasis Lane ground and facilties.

The ground is the football pitch of Billingham Synthonia F.C. In the background of the photograph can be seen the old Billingham baths and several houses on Central Avenue, before St. John’s R.C. was built. This would place that ground slap bang in the middle of the site where the former ICI agricultural offices stood - demolished several years ago.

The pitch also features in the West v Mbrough picture (No 1 in this Gallery) and was probably taken on the same day.
