Close scores were a feature of that season; the side beat Cheshire 6 – 5, Lancashire 3 – 0 and Cumberland & Westmoreland 13 – 3 in addition to this home defeat they also came out second at the hands of South of Scotland 10 – 0 and Northumberland 13 – 3.
