Rovers under Harry Calvert’s Captaincy won the Senior Cup for the only time in the 1950s to mark their 75th Anniversary in fine style. They overcame North Durham, West and Billingham to reach the Final against Westoe at Ashbrooke. A try from Harry Walker, converted by Derrick Wrigley ensured a 5 – 3 win over Westoe, who were appearing in their fifth Final in six seasons.
The event also marked the last occasion on which a Cup winning team was met at Hartlepool Station, the team being taken by open topped ‘bus to their new Clubhouse at the New Friarage.
