The steamship Camellia sailed from Dakar bound for the UK on November 27th, 1917 and was not heard from again. It was presumed she had been sunk by a U-boat, but this has not been confirmed.
All 35 crew were lost including West Hartlepool-born Robert Gibson Parker.
