The steamship Galicia was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-70, 140 miles south-west of Fasnet, on June 10th, 1917. The ship was on a voyage from Malaga to London with general cargo.
Four of the crew were lost including Hartlepool-born Robert Powell.
The other crewmen who lost their lives were: Fleming, James; Korosky, Joseph; Massiah, Joseph William.
