Notes: On the 1st February 1887 whilst on a voyage from Middlesbrough to Bombay with a cargo of railway metals & dynamite the Beresford ran aground on the Hasbro Sands off Yarmouth. She was freed after the removal of some of her cargo & with the help of tugs on the 5th February. The Great Yarmouth Steam Tug Co. & others were awarded £3,120 salvage by the Court of Admiralty.
On Friday September 20th 1895 the Beresford took in tow the trawler Vulture & 3 ships lifeboats containing 93 passengers & crew belonging to the Dutch steamer Edam(2,367t) bound from New York for Rotterdam, the Edam had sunk after colliding with the Turkistan(4,066t),London to Cardiff, in the early hours of the morning in a dense fog. The Beresford towed the boats to Plymouth. The collision took place about 15 miles from the Eddystone light & no lives were lost, after standing by until all passengers & crew were safely in the boats & aboard the trawler the Turkistan continued on its voyage to Cardiff.
June 18th 1898 whilst on a voyage from Taganrog, Sea of Azov to Hamburg, the Beresford was disabled with machinery problems off Brunsbuttel & towed into Hamburg, it would appear these problems started whilst in the Mediteranean as she passed Malta on the 27th May but had to turn back and put into Malta on the 1st June, where she stays until the 3rd June.
