In 1966, jobs were plentiful and this one in March would be aimed at girls who were Easter school leavers. Johm Collier, which had once been Price's Tailors, was a big employer in the town and the factory had been extended.

The clothing factory opened in 1945 and was the first on Hartlepool Trading Estate. Just after opening, Hartlepool Mail of December 1945 reported that 250 staff were employed, most were women and girls and that the factory was producing 'demob' suits and overcoats. It was expected that the number of workers would shortly be increased to 1000 and that they would produce 2500 suits per week. The 'model' factory had a kitchen and canteen which would seat 500 diners at a time.
