The season 1911/12 proved a remarkable one for Rovers when they created a new World Record for points aggregate in a single season – 860, a record that stood until 1954 when St Luke’s College, Exeter exceeded it. The 1912 points exceeded the previous Durham County record held by West of 677 which had stood since 1902. At the penultimate game of the season 11/12 Rovers exceeded the English record held by Devonport Albion of 803 created in 1901 and saw them level with the World Record then held by the All Blacks of 830.
The final game of the season saw them play against the Yorkshire County XV brought together by R.F.Oakes and Rovers saw of the Tykes by 30 pts to 3, to make their seasons tally of points For as 860 and against 168.
The Game with Yorkshire was the start of the long series of matches against R.F. Oakes XVs that were to last for a century.
Of this famous side no less than six of them were killed in the Great War in F. Paterson, A.J.Dingle, R. P.Purves, J. Whitford, J.H. Farrow and R.H.Robson. C.O. Farrow survived the War only to die within a month of the Armistice in the Flu Epedemic that swept the world.

A series of images highlighting the outstanding run by Rovers in reaching every Senior Cup Final between 1905 and 1913, every one resulted in a win except for 1910 when they went down to Durham City on Ashbrooke. The years 1905-09 saw the side under the Captaincy of George Carter, who during the same period was a regular member of the Durham County Championship sides and played against the all Blacks, South Africa and Australia.
The club declined to take part in the 13/1914 Competition but had the satisfaction of defeating the winners Westoe on the two occasions the sides met that campaign.
