1909 - Hartlepool Rovers v Winlaton Vulcans

What we know about this image :

A sign of the financial times?  a Rovers programme which comprises just a single paper sheet, the back of which advertises the Roller Rink (admission 6d and a band in attendance!) along with Ilikeit  (sic – I Like it) Smoking Mixture (5p per oz) available at Steel’s at 31 Northgate.

In the Vulcan’s side were Jack Taylor and Jimmy Duthie both from West Hartlepool who had signed on the demise of West in 1908, so a return home for those two, a typing error in the Rovers team, W.H.Dundee is W A Robertson, nicknamed “Dundee”!

Players moving clubs were a feature of the game in this period, Rovers full back Dan Ellwood left for Durham City the following season to follow his fellow Rover and England player Tom Hogarth who left for City in November of 1909.
