Edward Backhouse Mounsey with Mrs Fryer & children on the beach at Seaton Carew. The Mounsey family, who were Quakers, lived in Ashburne House that stood next to the Seven Stars Inn which was later demolished and the Marine Hotel built on the site. The house was demolished later to make way for a car park.
Edward Mounsey married Rachael Ann Fryer in 1878.
The house, which was named after Ashburne, near Bishopwearmouth where the family were from, had belonged to Edward Backhouse and was left in his will to his nephew Edward Backhouse Mounsey in 1879.
