Fate

The West Hartlepool-registered steamship Dalton was torpedoed and sunk by the Austrian submarine U-29 off the Greek island of Cythera on 10th April, 1917. The ship was on a voyage from Salonika to Malta in ballast.

Three crew were lost: Hartlepool-born 2nd Engineer John William Wardle, T. Allen and George Johansson.
