Fate

The Ceylon, a 146grt steam trawler registered at Grimsby (GY366), was sunk by a German warship while on the North Sea fishing grounds, on September 6th, 1914. All 9 of the crew were lost including West Hartlepool-born 2nd Engineer Arthur Bakes Bradbury.

The other crewmen who lost their lives were: Barker, Joseph; Carter, Alfred John; Emson, Fredrick; Gibland, John; Marchant, Edward Arthur; McAndrews, George; Pilcher, Herbert Richard; Simon, Ingwold Joseph.
