The 'King Edward VII'-class pre-dreadnought battleship HMS Britannia was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UB-50, in the Straits of Gibraltar, on November 9th, 1918 - just two days before the signing of the Armistice. Fifty-one crewmen were lost, including Thomas William Webster of West Hartlepool.
