The British steamship War Crocus was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UB-107 (Eberhard von Prittwitz und Gaffron), 2 miles off Flamborough Head, on July 8th, 1918. The ship was on a voyage from Hartlepool to an un-named destination with a cargo of coal. No lives were lost.
