Fate

On August 9th, 1917, the British steamship Blagdon was torpedoed by the German submarine U-78  off the Shetlands, but did not immediately sink. Later that same day she was finally sunk by U-100 (Degenhart Freiherr von Loe). The ship was on a voyage from Lerwick to Archangelsk with a cargo of herrings. Twelve of the crew were lost. Master Wyndhah Douglas Lewis.
