More detail »The post war West Hartlepool Development Plan provided for two three form entry Secondary Modern Schools to be built at the south end of the town. Brierton was opened in the mid 1950s, and as the Owton Manor and Rift House estates grew, the urgent need for another school became apparent. Plans for Manor Country Secondary School for boys were included in the 1963/4 building programme and for a girls' school in 1964/5.
In late 1964, while the boys' school was under construction, plans were adapted to make one six form entry single sex school. Mr WB Henderson was appointed first headteacher as the 1st phase of the school opened in 1966. Phase 2 was completed in 1968.
The school was built with two assembly halls, two kitchens and two gymnasiums with shower facilities and access to outdoor pitches. It had two main three storey blocks with a first floor bridge link.
