At the end of the war in 1945, Dad (Mr. John Edward Archbold) bought a window cleaning business for the princely sum of £250 from Mr. Horace Hockett, who at the time of the sale was the bandmaster at West Hartlepool Salvation Army Temple. Mr. Archbold ran the business himself for 7 years, working up a good clientele including many shops and businesses in Hartlepool Town itself. However, in 1952 he had a bad fall off his ladder so he decided to sell the business on and return back to Gray's shipyard.
