His birth was registered in the March qtr 1889, Hartlepool as Arthur Bradbury. He was the son of Arthur Bakes Bradbury and Ellen Moore who had married at All Saints, Stranton in 1881.

There were four sons, William 8, John 6, Charles 4 and Arthur 2, all born West Hartlepool . A newspaper cutting of June 1895 states that Arthur Bakes Bradbury of Musgrave St West Hartlepool is not responsible for any debts his wife Ellen Bakes Bradbury may contract after June 1895. It therefore appears that they possibly parted.
