Hartlepool seafarers lost at sea

Brown, Thomas Ryles

Fireman
13, Charles Street, West Hartlepool
West Hartlepool
8/4/1885
27/6/1916

Lost on the steamship Windermere.

Information about Thomas R Brown has been difficult to find. It is likely his full name is Thomas Ryles Brown, and was born at West Hartlepool in 1885.
His sea service records show him living at a number of different West Hartlepool addresses; his Death at Sea record gives No.18 Redworth Street and his military service record as No.35 Grace Street.

Thomas appears to have served in the Howe Battalion, part of the Royal Naval Division. He was possibly discharged from this in September 1914, the same year in which he married Eleanor Dring. Their address at the time of Thomas' loss is given as No.12, Charles Street, West Hartlepool.

To date, we have been unable to find him on any other Census returns or other documentary sources.
