Douglas - a general history

In October 1881 Douglas ran into the steamer Duke of Buckingham while she was at anchor at Gravesend. Douglas sank in the lowest part of the reach & the steamer Orton fouled the Douglas & she also sank.

Bound from Libau for Antwerp with a cargo of oats & a crew of 18 the Douglaswas wrecked near Hanstholm Lighthouse off the coast of Denmark on 20 April 1888. No lives lost. The master was found in default & his certificate was suspended for 12 months.
