Shepherdess - a general history

Voyages: 1850 Whitby for Hartlepool; 5 March 1864 in collision with the Leith vessel Oscar in the Thames.

Shepherdess was about to enter the Thames when her trysail sheet got foul of her wheel chains & she would not answer her helm. As a consequence shewent ashore on the Maplin Sands, Herne Bay & was abandoned on 27 December 1868 with six feet of water in her. The crew were picked up by the vessel Hamburg & landed at Gravesend. The vessel was partly insured in the local clubs as well as with Lloyds.
