Shields Daily News, Monday, March 4th, 1895:
STRANDING OF A WEST HARTLEPOOL STEAMER. At West Hartlepool on Saturday official inquiry was opened into the circumstances attending the stranding of the steamer Carlisle, owned by Messrs. Livingston and Connor, of West Hartlepool. The steamer left Rouen on the 2nd February for the Tyne in water ballast, and early on the morning of the 6th went ashore between Seaham Harbour and Sunderland. She was got off three hours afterwards, and proceeded to the Tyne. The casualty was attributed to thick weather. Evidence was taken, and the Court adjourned.
