Barnard Grove School

The infants' school was opened  by Durham LEA in 1964 in the premises which later became the Junior School. Until then children in the area were schooled in temporary buildings at West View until infant age children were admitted to Barnard Grove Infants'. After 1967, responsibilty for the school belonged to the new County Borough of Hartlepool and plans were finally passed in June 1969. The school was ready for use in April 1970 and the new Infants' department officially opened on 10th Feb. 1972.

The school was built in the style of many Hartlepool Infants' schools at the time with three pairs of classrooms forming wings around a central courtyard. There were toilets for each pair of classrooms.
