Bound from Archangel for Hull with a cargo of timber Jupiter was attacked by German submarine (UB-27 Victor Dieckmann) & damaged. She was towed to the Firth of Forth & beached on 11 October 1916 & later re-floated.

Bound from Dieppe for Manchester in ballast Jupiter was torpedoed by German submarine (UB-40 Hans Howaldt) & sank 15 miles west of Beachy Head in 50.38N/00.5W on 21 May 1917. 19 lives lost including master.
