Born in Plymouth, Wayne moved to Hartlepool with his mother & stepfather in 1951. The family lived at Friar Terrace & he attended Baltic St Junior School then Hartlepool Technical High School. His early years were spent being taunted & bullied. When aged 11 he met Muriel Carr, a dance teacher, who had a studio in Adelaide St and possibly above a cycle shop in Lynn St. At aged 13 he received a scholarship at the Royal Ballet School in London & from there 'the rest was history' as they say.
Exam successes at Muriel Carr's Dance School in Adelaide Street. Note the name of the highly commended Grade 1V dancer.
