Mr. Leonard Ord B.Sc., who was recently adopted as the prospective Labour candidate for East Perthshire, has written to the party stating that "owing to pressure of business and the fact that it is chiefly in England" he is compelled to ask them to accept his resignation.

Mr. Ord, who is 26 years of age, was born in West Hartlepool, and was apprenticed to the butchering trade with Mr. Robert Dobson. He left when 19 years of age, and joined the Sunderland constabulary. Resigning from that force in 1922, he took up scientific studies, and underwent a course of *microscopical entomology and biological research work in London and Edinburgh with a view to investigations connected with the introduction into this country of tropical insects. He is now engaged on several contracts by food producing firms in eliminating various species of exotic insects known by their activities to contaminating foodstuffs.
