Headteacher Miss Gaunt had been born in 1901 in Rochester Kent and was at Briertyon from 1958 until retirement in 1965. She studied at Ripon Training College, taught at Elwick Road Secondary school and was previously Head of St Aidan's Girls' School. She died in Hartlepool in 1987.
