1972 - Hartlepool RFC - Amalgamation Sevens

What we know about this image :

Following the amalgamation of the administration of “The Hartlepools” in 1967, West Hartlepool RFC introduced and ran a successful Sevens Competition among the clubs in the town to celebrate the historic event.  The event ran from 1968 until the early 1970s when it faded away.

One of the most successful “Sevens” clubs at that time, Hartlepool, soon made an impact on the Competition winning it on several occasions before the Competition ceased.

Hartlepool had won the Trophy in 1971 defeating, West, Brigade and GSOB to meet “Teesmouth”, in the Final who in their turn had accounted for Rovers, Tech and Athletic to reach the Final round, in an “American” (League) style Competition.

They almost retained the trophy with this Seven going down in the 1972 Final again against Teesmouth before winning again 1973 when they beat Athletic, Laings and Rovers to make it to the Final.  They beat Tech at that stage by 16 – 0 who in turn had accounted for GSOB, Horden and West.
