An image for the poster for the 2nd Round tie between Rovers and North Durham and a warm up by the boys from Henry Smith’s School and Technical. This is an early Rugby reference of Technical School founded in Lauder Street that became Secondary School, West Hartlepool Grammar etc. It led to the formation of the successful School Old Boys XVs that eventually become Seaton Carew RUFC.
The Second Teams Cup tie between Rovers and North Durham (from Gateshead) and we can date this to either 1907 or 1908, the sides met at this stage in each season.
The Hartlepool Schools Rugby Union ran a League around this time with Technical, Ann Crook’s, Jesmond Road, Galleys Field, Church Square, Brougham and Upper Grade (based at Park Road but moved in 1906 to the new Elwick Road building) all involved. In addition, Schools were also involved in the Pyman Medals Competition.
