Built by the Furness Shipbuilding Co. of Haverton Hill this ship is shown nearing completion. Her main machinery was supplied by "Richies." Its erection and installation was supervised by Jim Wilson. Four identical ships, Gulf Briton, Gulf Dane, Gulf Scot and Gulf Finn, were built for Britannia Tankers Ltd., a British flag affiliate of Gulf Oil. The gearing and thrust block for three out of four of these steam-turbine sets were supplied by Parsons Marine, then a subsidiary of RW, with one set from RW (Hartlepool). These ships were notable for being the last marine steam-turbine installations from RW (Hartlepool), covering the years 1959-63.
