Fate

The steamship Lorca was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-49, 200 miles west of Ushant, on November 15th, 1916. The ship was on a voyage from Gulfport and Norfolk, Virginia, to Calais with a cargo of timber.

All 32 crew were lost including West Hartlepool-born Patrick C. Leaman, Fireman, aged 21.
