The Drake-class Armoured Cruiser HMS Good Hope was sunk in the Battle of Coronel, off the Chilean coast, on November 1st, 1914. Her consort, the Armoured Cruiser HMS Monmouth was also sunk, both ships going down with all hands. Nine hundered and nineteen crew from the Good Hope were lost, including two from the Hartlepools, Thomas Bulman and William Henry Darnell.
