Fate

The West Hartlepool-owned steamship Horsa was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-93, south-west of Ireland, on April 30th, 1917. The ship was on a voyage from Port Briera, Algeria, to Cardiff with a cargo of iron ore. Master Edward Knaggs Stonehouse.

Eleven lives were lost including two from the Hartlepools:
Alfred Nash
Charles Rushton.

The other crewmen lost were:
Brodie, William; Casey, James; Casey, James; Elliott, Arthur; Farrant, Walter; Josephson, J.; Soares, M,; Stonehouse, Edward Knaggs; Tibbo, Peter John.
