Fate

The Swedish steamship Jarl was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-22 (Hinrich Hermann Hashagen), off north-west Scotland, on August 7th, 1917. The ship had been on a voyage from Gothenburg to Pasajes, Spain, with a cargo of woodpulp, but had been diverted to Stornoway by the Royal Navy for inspection. No lives were lost. Master O. Ernst.
