Grantully Maternity Home

Details about Grantully Maternity Home

Grantully in Westbourne Road was originally the home of a Scottish shipowner William McLean who named it after the country estate in Perthshire where his parents had been tenant farmers. It was originally called Grantully House and was built in the 1880s.

In 1920/21 it was aquired  by West Hartlepool Council and became a maternity home. It was in use for this purpose until around the late 1970s.

It has since been demolished and for some years bungalows have been on the site.
