In the background is the Essoldo/ Regal which is now of course a Bingo Hall.

B Relief Donated by Malcolm Davies

Donated by Malcolm DaviesMalcolm Davies (Back Row Middle) was a Police Officer with Cleveland Police from January 1978 until July 2008 and started at Hartlepool in April 1978 after finishing training school at RAF Dishforth. He was posted to 'B' Relief. There were 4 shifts operating and were called (very imaginatively A, B, C and D Reliefs) and at the time they worked from the Police Station on Raby Road, now 'The Peoples Centre'.
The photograph was taken in 1978 and included those members of the shift who were on duty at the time, so some other shift members are missing. It was taken in the "bar" area of the Police Station, which was on the ground floor.

Donated by Hartlepool Museum ServiceA match ticket that gives a glimpse into the social conditions of the time, the period from 1910 to 1914 saw a period of great unrest in the country with strikes and political upheaval
November of 1910 saw fighting between striking miners and police in Tonypandy and that name still reverberates in politics to this day, the same month also saw huge Suffrage marches in London
Hartlepool was not immune from this, indeed the year saw three Parliamentary elections held in the Borough when Christopher Furness was first elected then his election declared void, his nephew Stephen then held the seat in the bye election, and again later in the year when a further election was called by the Liberal Government.
This game, played on a Thursday, between the Police side from Hartlepool against the N.E.R. Police, raised funds for distribution to those excluded from financial assistance owing to the industrial actions taking place in the area. Games aimed at raising funds for Charitable causes have featured the Rugby game throughout its history in the town.
The outcome was a 7 - 0 win for the Hartlepool Police, raising £7.3s.5d. for the cause. The match had been kicked off by the Chief Constable, A Winterbottom and the teams were entertained to tea at the Lawrensen Hotel afterwards. (CMc)

 Mayors Sunday
Mayors Sunday Donated by Douglas Ferriday

Donated by Douglas FerridayThe parade along Victoria Road for the Mayor's Sunday. The photograph has been taken from a window of the Grand Hotel showing opposite to the left far side Gray Peverell's shop next to which is a small cafe and creamery owned by Mr. W. A. Harrison. The houses further along were mainly business premises e.g. coal merchants, upholsterers, dentists, photographers. This section was built in three stages which later became Binns Department Store and was the reason Binns building was made in three different types of architecture. The Tramcar in the parade was number 10 and new in 1897. Police in uniform can be seen leading the parade followed by the Mayor and other officials. c 1913.
