Fate
The steamship Algarve was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UB-38, 15 miles off Portland Bill, on October 20th, 1917. The ship was on a voyage from Rouen to Swansea in ballast.
Twenty one crew were lost, including West Hartlepool-born 2nd Engineer John Henry Bell.
