The battlecruiser HMS Indefatigable blew-up and sank at the Battle of Jutland, on May 31st, 1916. Over one thousand crewmen were lost, including seven from the Hartlepools: George Carter, Victor Carter, Albert Chappell, Charles William Connon, Joseph Gilmore, William James Hart, and Robert Charles Norman.
