This photograph is of William Lithgo's apprenticeship papers as a Tees pilot for which he was paid a total of £25.00 over a period of 5 years from 1788. He was paid £3.00 in his first year, £4.00 in his second year, £5.00 in his thirs year and £6.00 in his fourth and fifth year.
