The Belgian steamship Brabo, with a cargo of wood pulp and steel, sank in the entrance to the River Tyne on March 14th, 1942 following a collision. Salvage work was mainly carried out by the Hartlepool steam pilot cutter T. H. Tilly, with Hartlepool pilot Tom [Tommy] Harrison in command. The remains of the Brabo were not finally cleared until the late 1940s-early 1950s.
