On a voyage from Port Talbot for Narvick in ballast Thomas Walton was torpedoed by German submarine U-38 (Heinrich Liebe) & sank off the Lofoten Islands, North-West Norway on 7 December 1939. Master Percy Dudley Townsend. Thirteen crew members were lost.
