On a voyage from Novorosisk, Russia for Hamburg with a cargo of seeds & wool & a total crew of 24 Aldworth had her decks swept & cargo shifted during force 11 WNW gales in the North Atlantic in about 45N/8W on 2 March 1897. 1 life lost: at 1pm on 20 November 1926 she got into difficulties during severe gales & a high sea in the North Atlantic. There was water in her engine room, stokehold & holds 3 & 4. The Cunard liner, Andania, went to her assistance & stood by reporting that the master of Aldworth was reluctant to abandon ship. By 9pm the sea & wind had moderated so as Aldworth headed for port the Andania escorted her. At 11.30pm the American steamer West Eldera took over as escort. Eventually Aldworth reached Falmouth safely. The master stated he had never experienced anything like it & did not think they were going to come through as they were almost completely flooded for 36 hours. He praised the efforts of his crew who worked non-stop keeping the pumps going.
