The British steamship Era was torpedoed by the German submarine U-32 (Kurt Albrecht), 18 miles off Cape Tenez, on May 1st, 1918. The ship was on a voyage from Bougie, Algeria, to Glasgow with a cargo of iron ore. Twelve crew were lost.
