Miscellaneous: In October 1868 the Lady Alice Hill was moored in the Abercorn basin. William McGregore, 21, had been working on the steamer & as he finished & walked along the pier he slipped, fell into the water & drowned. A verdict of accidental death was recorded but the coroner observed that there were not sufficient lamps along the pier; 27 May 1899 a father & son, Malayans, ran amok aboard the Sri Pontianak. The elder of the two, Anan, brandished a piece of steel at those sleeping aboard. He killed 3 men, a woman & a child, all Chinese & wounded about 13 people including his own son. The master killed the perpetrator with a shot from a revolver.
Throughout 1902 the Sri Pontianak was advertised for sale in the Straits Times. The advertisements stated she was able to carry 5,000 piculs of rice & travel at a speed of 8 or 9 knots. She was at this time sailing under the Dutch flag in regular trade between Singapore & Pontianak;
Voyages: 1867 Lady Alice Hill sailed between Dundrum, County Down & Whitehaven weekly; September 1903 Sri Pontianak from Singapore for Shanghai.
